HomeIndustry TechnologyApple iPhone X: 5 technologies set for mass adoption now Apple iPhone X: 5 technologies set for mass adoption now

When the Apple iPhone X hits store shelves across the world in November, it will take over as the new phone the world aspires for. That’s a USP Apple has retained since the first iPhone was launched a decade back. While for most of the early part of that decade Android phones were playing catch up, with one iPhone killer coming after the other only to fall over the wayside, over the past few years these phones have introduced features that Apple didn’t have.
So even with the iPhone X, most of the features that are being launched are those that Android phones have had for a couple of years. But the difference here is that with Apple adopting these technologies, they sort of get a legitimacy and the ecosystem falls into place announcing that this feature is here to stay. From Wi-Fi to USB-C and even wireless audio, it was the adoption by Apple that gave these technologies the impetus they needed. Android manufacturers are unable to give this push because the ecosystem is unsure how long they will get support from a brand. This time with the iPhone X, Apple has put its weight behind a few technologies that have been around for a while but are not looking at better times for themselves. Here is a list:
Edge-to-edge display: Bezel-less display had been Samsung’s thing for a while, till this year almost everyone jumped on the bandwagon. In fact, the most affordable bezel-less phone is from Indian manufacturer Micromax. With the iPhone X sporting one, you can rest assured that all manufacturers will be under pressure to offer at least one phone with the same feature. They will also be under pressure to offer the same at multiple price points. At least for a year, this is going to be the standard for top-end phones.

Google Tez UPI-Enabled Digital Payment App Launched in India

Indians now have one more app to choose from when they want to pay for movie tickets, utility bills, and make other transactions online. Ahead of its scheduled press event in New Delhi on Monday, Google unveiled Tez, the first digital payment app from the company for the Indian market as it enters the country’s booming digital payments industry that its global rivals Amazon and Facebook are also eyeing. Tez means fast in Hindi, which the company said was one of the top features of its new app.

Google Tez is a standalone payments app, available on Android and iOS, and is powered by UPI, a payments protocol built by government-backed organisation NPCI. The launch of Tez comes nine months after the company chief executive officer Sundar Pichai told NDTV in a televised interview that he was looking at UPI and ways to adopt it.

The Google Tez UPI-enabled digital payments app supports various local languages including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu. The interface is straightforward. The company asks users to enter their bank account number and verify their ownership. They can do so easily by quickly sending a text message from their registered phone number through the Tez app’s interface. Once verified, Google prompts the user to add a UPI PIN, and then they can start making payments. They can then see all their friends who’re also using Tez, and request and pay money.

More interestingly, however, is the Google Tez “Cash mode” option, which transmits “audio” to identify the person nearby to you, and lets you pay or receive money when you’re able to find that user. The company has partnered with HDFC Bank, ICICI, and State Bank of India for backend processing.
